Neurogenic intermittent claudication in lumbar spinal canal stenosis: the clinical relationship between the local pressure of the intervertebral foramen and the clinical findings in lumbar spinal canal stenosis.
STUDY DESIGN The clinical relationship between the local pressure of the intervertebral foramen and the clinical findings in lumbar spinal canal stenosis were evaluated. OBJECTIVE To investigate the pathogenesis of neurogenic intermittent claudication in lumbar spinal canal stenosis. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA The genesis of neurogenic intermittent claudication is generally considered to re...
متن کاملThe reliability of differentiating neurogenic claudication from vascular claudication based on symptomatic presentation.
BACKGROUND Intermittent claudication can be neurogenic or vascular. Physicians use a profile based on symptom attributes to differentiate the 2 types of claudication, and this guides their investigations for diagnosis of the underlying pathology. We evaluated the validity of these symptom attributes in differentiating neurogenic from vascular claudication. METHODS Patients with a diagnosis of...
متن کاملImaging of spinal stenosis: neurogenic intermittent claudication and cervical spondylotic myelopathy.
Spinal stenosis in either the cervical or lumbar spinal segments is one of the most common indications for spine imaging and intervention, particularly among the elderly. This article examines the pathophysiology and imaging of the corresponding clinical syndromes, cervical spondylotic myelopathy or neurogenic intermittent claudication. The specificity fault of spine imaging is readily evident ...
متن کاملCauda Equina Conduction Time Determined by F-Waves in Normal Subjects and Patients With Neurogenic Intermittent Claudication Caused by Lumbar Spinal Stenosis.
PURPOSE Lumbar spinal stenosis typically presents with neurogenic intermittent claudication. The aim of this study was to investigate cauda equina conduction time (CECT) in patients with neurogenic intermittent claudication caused by lumbar spinal stenosis and its relationship with age and body height in normal subjects. METHODS The study included 172 normal subjects (group C) (mean age 44.1 ...
متن کاملFocal Ligamentum Flavum Hypertrophy with Ochronotic Deposits: An Unusual Cause for Neurogenic Claudication in Alkaptonuria
Neurogenic claudication resulting from focal hypertrophy of the ligamentum flavum in the lumbar spine due to ochronotic deposits has not been reported till date. The authors discuss one such case highlighting the pathogenesis, histological and radiological features. Salient features of management are also emphasized upon.
متن کاملPseudoclaudication syndrome caused by a tumour of the cauda equina.
A typical case of pseudoclaudication syndrome (neurogenic intermittent claudication), where the cause of the lumbar spinal canal narrowing was an intraspinal neoplasm, is reported. A neoplasm as the cause of this syndrome seems to be very rare, possibly because of the progressive nature of the space-occupying lesion and hence the rapid development of other predominant symptoms.
